Mapex Data Storage: boost your MES system performance by up to 25%

Mapex Data Storage (MDS) is a new solution designed for companies looking to optimize data management and enhance the performance of the MapexBP platform. Read on to learn more.

In today’s digital era, efficient data management is crucial for the optimal operation of any MES system. Aware of this need, we at Mapex have developed the Mapex Data Storage (MDS) module, a solution that enables data historization and archiving.

In this article, we dive into the features and benefits of this new product and explain how it can improve your MapexBP platform’s performance by up to 25%.

What is Mapex Data Storage?

Mapex Data Storage is a module designed to optimize data storage and management within the Mapex MES system.

This tool allows more resource-intensive structures or those affecting overall system performance to be managed far more efficiently through historization and archiving.

Historization

Historization involves storing data in a separate database, known as the “historical database.”

This database consists solely of data that, due to its size and usage, could affect the main database’s performance.

Typically, the following types of data are historized:

  • Historical production data.
  • Quality data.
  • Traceability data.
  • Weighing data.
  • Process variable data.
  • Energy consumption data.

By implementing historization, the largest datasets are moved to a secondary location, freeing up resources in the main database and improving performance.

Archiving

Archiving complements historization. This process involves extracting data from the historical database to flat files.

These files are then compressed to take up less disk space, further improving storage efficiency.

The generated files can be stored on any server unit and, importantly, can be restored directly to the historical database without impacting normal use of MapexBP. This ensures that historical information is accessible when needed, without compromising system performance.

What are the benefits of Mapex Data Storage?

Implementing Mapex Data Storage brings several significant benefits:

  • Resource optimization: by freeing up space and reducing the load on the main database, server resources such as CPU and RAM are optimized.

  • Improved performance: the efficiency of the MapexBP system is noticeably enhanced, with performance gains of 20-25%.

  • Seamless data integration: historical data is integrated with current data in query reports, enhancing the user experience.

  • Flexible storage options: “old” data can be stored in external files, allowing it to be removed from the historical database. However, this data can still be restored if needed in the future.
